Our Permissions Update, a major revamp to the existing permissions system, is now live! This update allows you more flexibility and puts more power in your hands with how you want your users to be able to access your site.

Account Types
Different Account Types have been added. An Account type describes the type of user visiting your site, such as a Guest or Member, and they have a set of default permissions you can configure. For example the Guest is restricted only to viewing content, but you can now choose which content on your site they can view.

Customizable Permission Roles
A Permission Role is a set of permissions that you can assign to your users.

How the permissions system used to work is we created several permission roles for you, which were Guest, User, Trusted User, Moderator, Admin and Super Admin. They had certain permissions enabled and we allowed you some flexibility in declaring additional permissions to them as well, but they were not customizable and you could not create your own.

With this update, now you can! Permission Roles are now completely customizable and contain all of the possible permissions for your site so you can go very detailed with your permissions if you like. Now you can do things such as create an Author role that has special permissions to post on your main blog but no other permissions.

Here is a screenshot of what you would see editing a permission role:

Customizable View Levels
A View Level is an additional view/use restriction placed on certain content on your site, such as a forum thread. Previously they were wrapped into the Permission role, but as those are now customizable, so are the view levels.

There are 6 different view levels, by default they were Guest, User, Trusted User, Moderator, Admin and Super Admin. Guest and Member are automatically assigned to the Guest and Member accounts, the others can be renamed and handed out with Permission Roles to further restrict certain content on your site.

Please note that view levels are ordered, meaning that someone with View Level 5 can view any content from View Levels 0-5; and someone with View Level 3 can view any content from levels 0-3 but cannot see content from levels 4-5.

Today we are launching MMO Fansites, a place for players of MMORPGs to create and participate in fansites for their favorite games. Our goal is to allow you to create an interactive site that draws your members in and encourages them to participate and become part of your community.

To meet this goal we offer a wide range of communication features with each fansite. The main voice of each fansite is the blog, containing information your visitors would be interested in; but there is also many other communication tools available on the site. Forums, for discussions amongst your members, a shoutbox, for quick chatting and short messages, and private messaging are some of the additional communication features available with each site.

Perhaps one of our more unique and important features is our theming system. Our theming tools allow you to easily create a visually unique theme for your fansite with no HTML or programming experience necessary. To make the process even easier, we have a public themes section, which allows you to load themes which are public into the editor and customize them; so rather then creating your theme from scratch, you can find a nice base theme to start with and then customize it.

Along with these features we have at launch, MMO Fansites will continue to improve and receive new features with future updates. We listen to our users and love to receive feedback, so if you are using MMO Fansites and have any suggestions for how we can improve it drop us an email or fill out our Feature Request form.

If MMO Fansites sounds interesting, and you have thought of starting a blog or fansite about your favorite MMORPG, take our free trial and experience our service first hand to see if we meet your needs =)
